What is Yoga Nidra?
Yoga Nidra, also known as "yogic sleep," is a deeply restorative meditation and relaxation practice. It involves lying down comfortably while being guided through various stages of relaxation, leading to a state of total physical, mental, and emotional ease.
One hour of Yoga Nidra can be as rejuvenating as four hours of regular sleep. This practice not only relaxes the body but also helps calm the mind and restore balance, making it ideal for anyone seeking deep relaxation and rejuvenation.

Improves sleep:
Yoga Nidra is highly effective in easing insomnia and supporting better sleep quality. It helps calm the mind and relax the body, making it easier to fall into a deep, restorative sleep.
Pain management:
Yoga Nidra can ease chronic pain and support recovery from PTSD. It encourages the body to release tension and promotes deep healing.
Stress reduction:
By reducing anxiety and lowering cortisol levels (the body’s stress hormone), Yoga Nidra provides a natural way to ease stress and bring a sense of calm and relaxation.
Heightened awareness and focus:
With regular practice, Yoga Nidra helps improve mental clarity, boost focus, and enhance your overall sense of awareness, making it easier to stay present and handle life’s challenges.
Emotional balance:
This practice helps transform negative thought patterns, behaviours, and habits. Over time, it fosters emotional stability and a more positive, peaceful mindset.
Holistic well-being:
Yoga Nidra creates a deep sense of calm, inner harmony, and clarity, supporting your overall well-being and helping you feel more balanced, both physically and mentally.
The History of Yoga
Yoga is an ancient practice that originated in India thousands of years ago as a system for improving physical and mental well-being. Over time, it evolved to include a wide range of techniques focused on posture, breath control, and concentration. In the 20th century, yoga gained global popularity as a form of exercise and stress relief, blending traditional movements with modern fitness approaches. Today, it's practiced worldwide in various styles, offering benefits like increased flexibility, strength, and relaxation.
1
Do I need to be flexible to do yoga?
No! Yoga helps improve flexibility over time, but you don’t need to be flexible to start. The key is to listen to your body and practice at your own pace.
2
What should I wear to a yoga class?
Wear comfortable, stretchy clothing that allows for movement. Breathable materials like cotton or moisture-wicking fabrics are ideal. Avoid anything too loose that might get in the way during poses.
3
How often should I practice yoga?
Even practicing yoga once or twice a week can be beneficial. For greater flexibility and stress relief, aim for 3-5 sessions per week. Daily practice, even for just 10–15 minutes, can be transformative.
